Portland Youth Football League is pleased to announce the appointment of our new Middle School Head Coach, Issiah Bachelder. Coach B comes to us with extensive football experience and a distinctive resume. In fact, he grew up playing youth football in Portland and played for PYFL himself in Middle School. He is now the father of three and is passionate about giving back to the youth football community.
A former Portland High School quarterback, Captain, and All-Conference standout, Coach Bach helped lead PHS to one of their best records in school history and back-to-back Class A North titles. He was chosen by the high school referees to receive the PYFL alumni scholarship, an honor recognizing outstanding achievement on and off the field. After earning Rookie of the Year and multiple All-Star honors with Maine's AAA Semi-Pro club the Southern Maine Raging Bulls, he signed to play professionally in France. COVID interrupted that plan and, instead, he debuted with the Győr Sharks in Hungary. While in Hungary, Coach Bach coached youth teams from U11 to U18 and at the University level in Hungary at Széchenyi István Egyetem. He also coached and mentored youth athletes that have come from Hungary to play HS ball in the states. Most recently, Coach B earned 1st-Team All-ECFL honors with the Seacoast Warhawks. Last season, he helped turn around Westbrook’s 5th & 6th grade squad, taking over as head coach mid-season to lead them to their first win in at least 3 seasons.
Coach Bach is bringing with him a number of position coaches and assistant coaches and we have two coaches staying on from last year as well. We are excited to have Coach Bach and his team and looking forward to the 2025 Season. Registration is still open for PYFL Tackle, Flag and Cheering. If you are planning to register for Fall Tackle, the sooner the better, as Coach B has some ideas for the pre-season that players will want to hear about. If you are considering playing tackle for the first time, please reach out with questions. Both our MS and 4/5/6 teams are fully staffed with excellent coaches.
PYFL and Coach B are committed to football safety, football fundamentals and training athletes to be their best, both on and off the field.
